What a day
This is a day of more events than there is time for, so I may have to share them out with Sunday.
We were being collected by R & S at 8.30 to go to Ashbourne for the teddy parachute jumping off the church spire. But even before that, I opened the curtains in a back bedroom window and saw that the neighbour backing on to us had their garden decorated with pink balloons and ready for a party. We don’t know them to speak to but this was an opportunity to say hello. I retrieved a super hero teddy from the bag prepared for Ashbourne and took it round to give to the mum, whose daughter is one year old today. She was delighted.
Back just in time to be collected.
It’s the first time I’ve been involved on the day and we were all roped in, R was selling the tickets for the jump, B was preparing and fitting the parachutes to the teddies taking the leap. The teddies were all sizes, even the enormous one in extras, held by no 5 !!! After they jumped they were collected on a stretcher, taken to the first aid table to be checked over and given a certificate. No major injuries sustained, but the owner of the big ted was in tears when his pal went splat on the ground, no floating down for him.
S and I got roped into selling the bacon rolls. The ladies in the kitchen did the cooking, S did the running back and forward, and I managed the money.
There were a number of stalls with food, plants and craft items. One of the church stalls had the teds that had been donated for people to buy. As I left I had a little peak to see if my teds had been sold and gone to new homes. Yes all gone. It’s a good job that I had retrieved one for the baby over the fence, as the box at home is empty.
It has been a beautiful hot morning, but started to rain as we headed home for a rest before heading south for phase two of today.
