Leeds Castle, the best castle in the world?
One of the reasons for coming south was to be able to attend the 75th anniversary dinner of the Kent Society of Rugby Football Union Referees at Leeds Castke.
I started referring in 1997 and referees my last game in March 2020 just before the pandemic struck. In that time I reached level 9 (of 13) and enjoyed a career of refereeing and advising of over 20 years. The game changed after Covid especially senior men’s rugby and I never went back but I retained my membership for this event. The food was ok, nothing g extraordinary. The wine was local from Chappell Down vineyards
It was a gala dinner held at the beautiful Leeds Castke venue. I struggled to remember the names of many but we had a good time on our table. It was populated by psst presidents of the society ( and their wives) and me and Susan. I was in august company. They were all life time honorary vice presidents but I was the only one who had received a long service award which made them laugh.
As we walked away I thought this was the last event I would attend with the Kent Society. Now, someone suggested looking up the Cumbria Society… now, let me see…
