Solstice

Well, it is that time of year. Our Nordic and Baltic cousins make a big deal out of the summer solstice. We should too. Estonians like to get together for a wee singsong. Quite a lot of them.

When Mu Isamaa comes along, they enjoy themselves so much they are moved to tears and cannot sing.

It is a long story. It involves invasion, repression, deportation and then... freedom.

I have been to Estonia at this time of year. It makes our 17 hours 35 minutes between sunrise and sunset seem thoroughly feeble.

Closer to home, I celebrated the longest day by tackling a new Parkrun. The Riverside Park one in Glenrothes held its first event last week, so I decided it was time to join the fun.

Fun? Well the course description admits it "undulates". It does. A lot. But I got there... eventually.

It is a lovely course (if you can manage the undulations) so I will go back anytime. It is just a 15 minute drive.
