Day Of The Diva

Today is the last day of my 50’s, tomorrow at 3 am I turn 60!

Facing my 30th birthday I was unhappy, I was in a bad relationship, I was living alone, I didn’t feel that I’d achieved as much as I should’ve done and I actually ended up in hospital under general anaesthetic having a laparoscopy for burst ovarian cysts on the day!

40th was fantastic, I married my amazing husband age 33, gained 2 fantastic stepdaughters, had my first son age 35 and my 2nd son age 37, so at 40 I had a lovely young family and I was also doing really well professionally touring the world and Writing hit songs.

Approaching 50 I was terrified in the run-up, I was feeling old, I was worried what people in the industry would think about my age and I wasn’t even sure I was going to celebrate it at all because I was worried that no one would employ me when they found out how old I was, I did have a 50th birthday party at My Home which I decided to do about two days before which of course was lovely.

During my 50s my mother died after a long-term illness. My boys grew up and settled into loving relationships, Zebedee is 25 and has been with lovely Natalia for a few years now, he is doing really well as a tattoo artist she is enjoying being a piercer. Gulliver is 22 and left home three years ago and lives with his lovely girlfriend Erin, they’ve been together for seven years and are working hard on their music, they have a band called Half Star, they write their own music, he plays guitar and she sings and plays the bass.
Ruby is a journalist and settled in Scotland with her long-term partner and they have a lovely little boy who is eight and Lola is happy and planning the next phase of her life with the wonderful Ollie.
In my 50s I have had to redefine a lot… now that my children are no longer children and don’t need me in the same way. I’ve also been through a number of physical changes of course. I have also learnt to DJ which I really love… still singing and writing songs and travelling.

So on the eve of my 60th birthday, I feel grateful and thankful that I am still here! none of us know how long we will be here so I think it’s best to try and enjoy it!

Had a quiet day with Max, a lovely visit from Kate and Tim with flowers and champagne and a handmade card and a beautiful evening with Gulliver and Erin and amazing curries made by Max and lots of games and music.

I bought THISon 12 inch when I was 15 in 1980, absolutely loved it and used to sing it to everybody and anybody who would listen, an old friend reminded me of it the other day! X
