Sunshine in Kirkwall

I bought a T-shirt on impulse yesterday in Kirkwall which was stupid a) because I need another Tshirt like I need a hole in my head and b) because it absolutely did nothing for my appearance.
That meant it had to be returned and knowing that there were 4+thousand people getting off a cruise ship tomorrow in Kirkwall I decided to go to the town on the early bus this morning and return by 11 am to catch all the wonderful weather on offer in Stromness .

With the deed done and money refunded I left a sunny warm Kirkwall to see from the bus a haar slowly descending over the landscape to the west so that by the time I reached Stromness it lay completely covered in mist.
I felt the way I do when I know Glasgow and the west coast are basking in sunshine while Edinburgh and the east coast are blanketed in a wet haar. However the good thing about the weather here is nothing seems to last for very long so that by early afternoon the sun was out to play again meaning  that the 4 pm dip at high tide for some of us Selkies should be in warm sunshine not in a cold cloying haar.

The swim has been done and it was the best. We stayed in the water for much longer than usual and it felt glorious in the sun and warmth. We have to make the most of this wonderful weather because it certainly won’t last.
