Golden-crowned Night Heron

Suzanne and I went to the local Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens this morning, a favorite for photographing water lilies and lotuses. We were a bit early for the lotuses, but did find some in full bloom. We also got close to this Golden-crowned Night Heron. The bird was thermoregulating with its wings spread wide, and for a time leaned forward and placed its head on the ground.  We're not sure what purpose that served.  It was very warm and humid today, but well worth the visit.
