“Farm to Table”

Tuesday
It was a gloomy day with the threat of showers, so we thought it would be a good day to visit a new exhibition just opened at the Cincinnati Art Museum, entitled “Farm to Table: Food and Identity in the Age of Impressionism”. The exhibition showcases over sixty paintings and sculptures, including the work of Monet, Eva Gonzales, Paul Gauguin, Van Gogh and Alfred Sisley. A few of the paintings were from the museum’s own collection, but most were from elsewhere, a couple of French museums, The Chrysler Museum in Norfolk Virginia, amongst others. It was a great exhibition, which we really enjoyed. In my collage you have top left, Landscape with cattle, by Rosa Bonheur, to the right of that, The Haystack by Claude Monet, one of a series of 20 or more paintings of haystacks in the fields bordering his home in Giverny, at different times of day and in different weather conditions. Next row down on the left is Apple blossom by Alfred Sisley, and next to that is Fishermen by Léon Gustavo Ravanne. Below those is part of Harvest Scene by Daniel Ridgway Knight, American, but spent most of his life in France, apart from when serving in the Civil War. Lower right is Vineyards at Auvers by Vincent Van Gogh. I’ve added a second collage representing the market / table part of the exhibition.
After seeing all this food related Art, we had to follow it up with lunch in their cafe!
