Solstice

It is hot here today...95F (35C). We started early when Grandson Peter arrived at 8am to clean off the solar panels. He said he felt like his day was half over since he was up at 5am to go rock climbing. This is unheard of behavior for Peter and I think it must be a sign that he really loves it. He certainly started young (see extra).

I had hoped to take Spike to the doggy salon for a bath and a haircut but Mercury, who owns it has broken his arm and is out of commission for awhile, so we coerced, lured,  dragged him into the shower for a wash. The haircut was the summer version and I removed bales of black and white curls, mostly on the run and he wasn't feeling his usual cooperative self. I usually just trim his ears and his paws, but this was a full on body styling. I had to stop in the middle to go to Pilates.

By the time I declared him finished the rug was covered in dog hair and we dragged out the newly repaired vacuum cleaner which still doesn't work. When John took it in the first time for the same thing, he said the repair guy turned it on right away but said he would give it an overhaul. When it wouldn't start today I felt that it must be something we are doing wrong but what can you do wrong? You plug it in, you press the button. A green light comes on but nothing else.

I wound up sweeping the rug which may have removed more than the vacuum does!

There was a good column in the paper this morning headlined TRUMP REAWAKENS  RESISTANCE MOVEMENT.  It theorizes that sending troops into LosAngeles to 'protect' ICE agents who were raiding Immigrants' workplaces was a bridge too far. Americans seem to be remembering why they disliked him so much and showed up on Saturday by the thousands  on streets across the country to show it.

Trump will keep trying to tear this increasingly fragile and beleaguered nation apart. But Saturday showed, if and when he does so, he may not end up with the biggest piece.
