AFTERNOON TEA AT BOWOOD HOUSE

Today was the day we used the gift given to me for Mother’s Day by our older son and his wife and what a lovely time we had at Bowood House.

Bowood is a Grade I listed Georgian country house in Wiltshire, that sits within 100 acres of beautifully landscaped parkland that has been owned for more than 250 years by the Fitzmaurice family.  A cottage located on the Bowood House Estate was used as a filming location in the Downton Abbey film and can even be seen in the trailer. Bowood House now includes a hotel, spa, championship golf course and children's adventure playground.  Well worth a visit;  sadly we didn’t see the actual house as we were in the hotel restaurant for our Afternoon Tea.

It was really hot, in fact, we could have done with sitting away from the window with the sun beating down on us - and it’s not often we can say that in this country!  We did ask the waitress to pull the curtain across, otherwise our cakes and cream would have melted in the heat!

The Afternoon Tea was wonderful - Mr. HCB chose English breakfast tea, I had a fruit tea and we were provided with plenty of water too.  The food was great and we have come home with two boxes of cakes, which I’m sure we will eat this evening as a snack.

The first shot was taken just as we left home, wearing our shades - and other two were obviously when the wonderful food was brought to our table.

Then we had the age-old question of whether it should be jam first and then cream or cream first and then jam, which I know we have addressed before!  I did one of each with my second scone and must say that I still prefer the jam first with clotted cream on the top.  Mr. HCB didn’t even try the other way!

We also have some exciting news that will be released this weekend - but no spoilers!

Take care and enjoy your evening - it is still very warm here.  Mr. HCB was out in the garden before 6.30 this morning painting some white shading on his greenhouse and was back indoors to have his breakfast by 8 o’clock; he said it was very warm even then.  M xx
