The Notorious Byrd Brothers

For me, is the best Byrds album. It was recorded in 1967, but not released until early ’68, by which time the group, in commercial terms at least, was going down the pan. The Byrds had four members when recording began, and only two left standing by the end. They sacked the egotistical David Crosby and seemed to be signing their own death knell. It’s amazing that something so smooth-sounding could arise from the carnage, but it did. Much credit must go to producer, Gary Usher who segued the tracks together and made it sound cohesive. On the song, Goin’ Back, he added more things that are normally found in a kitchen sink, but you barely notice. And here it is.
