Unusual Campers
As mentioned yesterday, a most unusual sight on a camp site! Of course there are pets, usually dogs, actually quite a lot of dogs. However, in all our travels, we have never come across campers with Cockatoos. They also have 2 dogs, but it is the female cockatoo that rules this particular tent. She absolutely shuns the male of the species in favour of the human male. L paid them a visit and discovered that the female will only allow the human male to preen her feathers, and is prone to finding bits of crumbs on his person and pecking them off.
We left them behind to do our walk into Salisbury and the Tuesday market, where I bought a sleeveless jacket for extra warmth in these cooler climes and met up with J at Sonder coffee for a chat and of course a coffee, before heading out to be picked up by Tony and Sue for lunch at the Pembroke Arms, where we have, in the past stayed overnight before the camper van days. Delicious lunch, during which, unfortunately our waitress knocked over my class of wine, the contents of which jettisoned all over my trousers, and created a lake of wine in the gravy of my lamb and rosemary pie. I urged her not to worry and discovered it was her third day on the job and clearly mortified, which caused her to come back to the table after recovering and offering to pay for a new pair. Of course, I refused, but the manager then approached and comped our bottle of wine and my lamb and rosemary pie.
It all ended up well as, miraculously, once it had dried, you wouldn't have known red wine had painted my trousers, which is rather puzzling as I had expected a red stain. But the deduction of the wine and main course did mean the bill was substantially reduced.
Great chat with T and S, who came back to the van for a cuppa and then we spent the evening relaxing and eating very little, having been so well fed and bathed at lunchtime.
Off to London tomorrow.
