History update
Nice, musical day with a lot of holiday feel to it. Very windy but sunny and quite warm, summer has definitely begun properly.
In the evening I listened to a historic lecture about all the ringfortresses on Ölands folk highschool. They all stem from the period of the "iron-age" 300-400 AD but we (the archeologists) knows very little about what they all were used for, maybe defence, maybe important places for clans to meet and decide things, maybe market places or places for religious events. The universities in Stockholm and in Kalmar has got a donation of quite a few million crowns to learn more. Many of the fortresses are going to be excavated during a period of five years where archeologists will dig well selected sites to learn more about this turbulent period in Öland (or whatever it was called in those days). Ludwig Papmehl Dufay is leading the team of archeologists with the help of students from the universities, as part of their education as archeologists. The work has just begun and the local interest is huge, the room was filled with, mostly elderly, people. The interest to apply to an archeological education among young people is very high but so far not so many are interested to listen to lectures.
