The bright side
The cladding, and much of the scaffolding, that was encasing the fire-ravaged stables have been removed. The replacement roof is far from complete, but I assume it is now watertight. The first floor remains a shell, lacking doors or windows. A lot to do, but direction of travel is everything
It's uplifting to have our view and our horizon back. The light-coloured field above the building has been spectacular buttercups, now faded. Between them and the ridge-line is a small block of solar pannels that were installed while that area was concealed from us. I mourn the loss of that green patch a little - we used to get glimpses of goats and horses, and people caring for them. I'll focus on being grateful for clean energy
The camera is pointing west. Spectacular sunsets have been few and far between this year. As the point where it crosses the horizon moves to the north-west in mid-summer, we lose sight of it behind the neighbour's trees - unless I position the camera very carefully and catch a sunbeam, to balance the glow of reflected light from the little roof turret that was untouched by the real fire
