Flower and a tuna or two

I was surprised by three prickly pear flowers this morning. This is one of them. Behind it are what are called tunas. It’s the fruit that grows after the flowers fall off. I've been told they're edible but I will stick to the prickly pear tea or jelly which is made from them.

Out by 8 am, in before 10 am to avoid the worst of the heat. Grabbed breakfast at the deli and picked up the mail.  I put out fresh nectar for the hummers, too.  I only put 2 oz in the feeder because sugar water will ferment in the heat. Don't want any drunk (or dead) birds.

Good news in the mail.  I finally got an insurance check to cover the cost of my hearing aids - which I got last August.  It will help cover part of the cost of my trip to Madera Canyon.  Have I mentioned that I'm going for 5 nights?  I leave next Sunday.  It can be 10 degrees cooler up there which will be a welcome relief.
