Jack Sparrow Conducts

We made a very late decision to head into Birmingham for an afternoon concert at the Symphony Hall. Billed as Williams versus Zimmer it was a wonderful concert of movie music, along with the conductor dressing up to add to the performance.

We like to sit in the choir seats and watch the orchestra, matching the different sounds to the sections performing. The percussionists are the unsung heroes of the musicians and we had a grandstand seat for their efforts. One thing we didn’t expect, but were amazed to hear, was the hall’s organ being used for the theme to Interstellar. I don’t think I’ve been at a concert where the pipes have been used before.

We stayed in the city for a meal afterwards, enjoying the buzz of people promenading in the later afternoon warmth.
