Teeming

As others have noted, it was pretty awful weather today. Teeming rain in the morning, and then occasional peals of thunder through the afternoon. The rain had stopped by the later afternoon, when I left the conference I was in the Mackenzie Building (Scottish-Polish relations, since you ask, and also involving a Consul General) and went - via my office for a brief roost - to the residence of the Indian Consul General, where there was a dinner in honour of the Chief Justice, who was one of the speakers on Friday, and his colleague who will be the Chief Justice in a couple of years time. The walk across the Meadows was very humid and sweaty.

The Consul General has changed since the last time I was there for a dinner (in honour of a previous CJI) and the vibe was quite different. It turned into a mass photo taking session at the end. The food was a delicious buffet. As ever, there were large numbers of staff members around. Not quite sure what functions they all had. The Lord President (but again....a new one since last year) was there, as was the same Lady judge (actually the Chair of the Law Commission) as last year. This is someone I keep running in to....(Friday at her conference; in April at the LSS dinner (accompanying my colleague DAOE)). She's very good fun and we agreed we were most likely to meet the next time at some party or other....

Home (on the bus, of course, with the Lady Judge - while all the Indian judges were taken away by chauffeur driven cars...), having been away for about 14 hours, to find that the pigeons really were on the very point of moving in for the duration, and resolved - during a subsequent night of poor sleep - that Something. Had. To. Be Done.

The blip is a tram overtaking the bus I was on at Elm Row. They always feel very close at that point.
