A lazy day…
… so a lazy blip. So lazy I didn’t even notice that half of me was reflected in the window; I should have moved so that was either in the pic or not. But hey it’s a day of rest;-)
But it’s not laziness that has resulted in me offering a word rather than a saying of the day. The word is ‘farnarkle’ and this is what I found…
Farnarkling" is an Australian slang term, coined by comedian John Clarke, referring to an activity that appears productive but is actually unproductive or lacks substance. It's often used to describe wasted time or effort in a workplace or group setting. Essentially, it's a fancy way of saying "bludging" or "doing nothing".
More specifically, "farnarkling" originated from a fictitious team sport that Clarke commentated on, and the term has since been extended to describe any activity that creates an appearance of productivity without any real purpose. It's a humorous way of pointing out the lack of meaningful work or progress in a given situation.
For example, a meeting where people are just talking and not actually making decisions could be described as farnarkling.
But that is not the word I searched for. I’ve noticed a few blippers use the word ‘fartnarkle’; indeed 60plus10 used the comment on my Abstract Thursday this week. And if I remember correctly Honeycombebeach https://www.blipfoto.com/Honeycombebeach also uses the word.It wasn’t a word I was familiar with and I’ve searched for its origin many times over recent years but have never managed to come up with anything in google. Even the perfect AI thing (it doesn’t specify its pronoun so I’ve no idea how to address him/her/it/?) drew a complete blank. If anyone is able to give its origin I’d be delighted
