Detour
I cheered Rich to his finish line today—well, finish stone actually. He’s standing by a letter D (maybe for Deutschland) on the furthest east point of Belgium. We had a lovely lunch before briefly going our separate ways again.
I was shocked to lift one of his bags. It weighed a tonne! I’m the meister of light weight (out of necessity rather than skill!) and many moons ago, helped him strip down an already light set of bags. He has regressed! I’ve left him to his packing since that trip and he confessed to each trip squeezing in ‘just another bit’! You’d be hard pushed to get me bike packing again—although if I packed his bags for both of us, I suspect he’d be carrying less!
I’ve moved on to Luxembourg—more beautiful rolling countryside, a lovely campsite …and a light bike ;)
