A book, a river, dogs and fishing

The River Tweed from the grounds of Dryburgh Abbey Hotel - taken this morning in the rain before we set off for home.

It had to be the Tweed after my last festival event yesterday - the launch of the book ‘Tweed’ which is a long poem written by Craig Aitchison about the river, illustrated with gorgeous prints made in response to the words. A beautiful little book written in Scots and English.

At the event, I found I was sitting next to Craig’s family and I had a lovely chat with his father who told me of how Craig liked nothing better than walking with his dogs on the banks of the Tweed . . .

. . . speaking of which. We had been wondering why there were so many dogs at lthe hotel. It does make a thing of being a dog-friendly hotel and the huge grounds make it ideal for dog walks. But it wasn’t until Gordon was talking to an American guy yesterday that we found there was a Championship Dog Show in Kelso (the kind of thing my mother took her Shelties to and I hated), so that was the reason for the dogs (and their owners!)

We also met two guys who were going to spend the day fishing in the Tweed. They laughed when I asked whether they would have a book with them to read.

We are now back home after a really enjoyable few days. Lots to read about, to think about, to ponder.
