App Mountain Couple
We had a busy day today in the mountains. After a delicious breakfast at our B&B, we drove to Grandfather Mountain, one of the most remarkable mountains in the eastern U.S. It is private not-for-profit, and the highest peak in the Blue Ridge range. It was donated by photographer and naturalist Hugh Morton. We made the taxing climb from the parking lot to the summit, only about a half mile, but steep and tricky. After lunch, a visit to the original Mast General Store before returning to our inn.
This evening, after dinner at a diner, we enjoyed some outdoor jazz in downtown Boone, part of a free summer series. The quartet was excellent, doing mostly jazz standards.
The main attraction tonight was at the Appalachian Theater, a concert by Catherine Russell, accompanied by a fine quartet. This was part of the High Country Jazz Festival.

The extra was made across the road from our B&B.
