Shapes in the current

I walked down to the bay this morning and saw pale orange shapes in the water. I assumed it wasn't red tide, because when that happens, warning signs are always posted. I thought that it might be some kind of algae, so I googled to see if I could find out what it is. It's likely due to a phytoplankton bloom called Noctiluca that usually happen in the spring or summer. This type of phytoplankton prefers inlets and areas with low circulation, which increases the nutrients in the area. Makes sense that it would occur in the bay.
We've seen this quite often, sometimes a darker orange, and now I know what it is. The shape in the extra made me think of a bird diving into the water.
The theme of Abstract Thursday is shape. Thanks to Ingeborg for hosting AT.
