Lido cafe

Just along from where we are staying is the Tarlair Lido - which operates from the 1930s to 90’s. It’s now being slowly renovated and the cafe building opened earlier this year. We popped along for coffee and a wander round. The pools are still rather green, although someone had their miniature boats out on the boating lake. But the Art Deco style building is looking fabulous and the volunteer run cafe was doing a great job.
We drove in round the coast, calling at Pennan, (possibly best known, by us at least, as the location of some of the Local Hero film). It’s a lovely wee (ex) fishing village but the phone box doesn’t seem to be in the right place.
We also dropped into Gardenstown, another harbour/fishing village and walked round the coast to Crovie. These little villages are very pretty now but of course there’s very little fishing and many of the houses are holiday homes.
Our final stop was a walk out to the sea cliffs at Troup Head where sea birds are nesting. We sat and watched in awe as the gannets sailed around the cliffs and back to their nests.
Back at our house I went for a little run along the coast. Got slightly distracted by a few people looking out to sea with their binoculars. We later discovered that orcas had been spotted along the coast. There have been sightings all week and we’ve missed them.
