Christo in town?

Despite the portent of a deluge of a day the weather turned out to be surprisingly lovely this afternoon. Which meant we were able to sit outside in the garden of friends who are leaving Edinburgh to live in London and catch up with some other school friends. The strawberries were delicious as was the fizz.

My wife who abstained from alcohol drove us back through the centre of Edinburgh to get home. Always a brave move during the Festival as either the traffic crawls at a snail's pace or you run the risk of tourists stepping out into the road looking in the wrong direction.

As we swept round Princes Street onto the Mound I had the window open and caught his view of the Royal Scottish Academy advertising the Peter Doig exhibition ( which I have yet to see). The columns of the Playfair building have been enlivened with colour, reminding me of the more grandiose work by Christo. Large natural sites have been enveloped by Christo and I was in Paris many years ago when the Pont Neuf was wrapped up. So dramatic and surreal.

In comparison this is small scale. But nevertheless bright and eye catching. As we were moving at the time I had only one shot and was not able to avoid the tram power cables which are now a feature of Princes Street.
