That don’t impress me much…
… it did impress us as we watched the fulmars soaring on the air currents above the cliffs at Lady’s Hole near Burravoe.
It was mesmerising watching them ride the uplifts, sometimes stationary, sometimes slicing through the air. It seemed to us as if the birds were just having a good time, playing, having fun for the sheer enjoyment and freedom of flying.
There were puffins to see too and the others saw an otter (extra) in a tidal pool in one of the many geos along the cliffs of the Horse of Burravoe.
An exciting cliff top walk; a good decision as we were going to do the Heoga Ness circular which was much flatter. Great views of Fetlar and Unst over the seas, back towards Lerwick , Brassay and Ness to the south.
Our first activity was a visit to the Old Haa visitors centre which was very informative once you had interpreted the layout correctly. A ship wreck, a plane crash, nature were at the heart of the displays as were examples of arts and crafts by local people.
The weather wasn’t quite so kind today. Not so bright but remaining dry. Were promised a sparkling day tomorrow.
Mussel update; I contacted Christopher Thomason about purchasing mussels. He said he would provide us with a couple of kilos without charge. Mussels on Friday! How generous.
Looks like an exciting weekend in Mid Yell with the local regatta taking place; races, beer tent, barbecues and dances. Promises to be an interesting weekend. The marquee has already gone up.
