Burgate

Friday afternoon was sunny and breezy, and after J's hospital appointment she was keen to go into central Canterbury; a planned trip earlier in the week had not happened because she wasn't up to it, and she wanted to look at the shops. We  strolled around the High Street and the Whitefriars area for a while, then headed for Primark. This was a big event for J: she had not been to browse and shop in person since she started shielding from Covid in March 2020. For five years, all her shopping has taken place online. Now, although we are still concerned to limit the risks of infection in indoor public spaces and to avoid busy times, we are taking advantage of the summer season and currently low incidence of serious respiratory infection to try to help her enjoy more places and activities while she's well enough. An hour felt like plenty; I managed to restrain her enthusiastic nurse from encouraging her to buy half the clothes in the shop, but she still came home with a large bag of trousers and tee-shirts and was delighted to show them to everyone who arrived for a shift over the subsequent couple of days.
