Pyrenean violet
Ramonda myconi.
We last found this in the wild about fifteen years ago in the Pyrenees on the border between France and Spain. It was on a sunny day in an unforgettable place called the Cirque de Gavarnie.
When we got home we managed to buy two plants at a specialistAlpines nursery.
They have flowered in our garden every year since then.
The secret is to have their roots in vertical rock cracks which drain very quickly.
