Local wetlands

This little area has been made into a lovely wetlands, very close to where I live. The very first birds to arrive after the contractors left, was a pair of Pied Stilts. I thought how unusual- I thought ducks, pukekos etc would be first.
Today I stopped for a few minutes and watched the 2 stilts fending off a hawk. Amazing aerobatics, the hawk flew off rapidly. Possibly the stilts are looking at nesting.
