Common crow butterfly

I last posted a photo of this butterfly, or one indistinguishable from it, on 1 June. Today's photo wasn't taken in full sun so its darkness shows better. I was hoping to get a shot with its wings flat out but it was not to be. I believe that in today's photo it is sleeping, as I was able to get quite close and clear a bit of foliage without it flitting off.

I am surprised still to see one, but today, although cold, it was sunny and not too windy, maybe enough to bring it out. This species also has an interesting caterpillar and chrysalis, for which I will keep a lookout over the seasons.

Thanks for hosting Debbie.
