Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2025 Friday — A Cambria Afternoon

This has been an interesting, fun first Friday afternoon in June. We were in Cambria today as part of our musical journey; my fourth piano lesson.

Then Mr. Fun found himself quite attracted to the little shoppe with all the rusty yard art (see photo). He thinks some items, most, are just too expensive. Ideally, yard art should be found at garage sales for a next to nothing price.

Then right next door is an old, historic house with enough nasturtium plants to get lost in them. And the picket fence, oh my. I have no place to put a picket fence, but if I did I would. The nasturtium pulled me out of my introvert-ness to walk into this place that belongs in wonderland. I told the proprietor I wanted to buy all her nasturtium.

Then what was inside this little house caught my attention. I could murder a piggy bank to own an item or two “For Sale” in this place. The woman, the proprietor today, was Cindalee. She was so nice, so welcoming. She’s overseeing the place, babysitting it, while the two artists owners, husband & wife, are on vacation. The owners are originally from Laguna Beach. The husband paints art on denim pants and denim jackets, and the wife is a textile artist.

I could afford to buy a pocket of one of the denim jackets, okay maybe two pockets. Walking amongst all that artistic clothing was inspiring. I got to tell Cindalee that Mr. Fun & I became Christians in 1975 because a friendly, people-loving pastor explained the gospel to us. I told her that previous to that we were basically “party-till-you-puke” people. Sorry if that offends you; our behavior offended God too; so He made sure we were introduced to Jesus and given an invitation to be part of His family and enjoy a nicer life.

The proprietor told me how she and her husband met, and that they had helped to build the “Tree Bones Resort” facility in south Big Sur. I mentioned our church background and she told me she had been raised Southern Baptist. I don’t know that I’ll ever see her again; I hope so. She was wonderful to talk to and added immensely to my day.

From California’s Central Coast,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
