The hebe was popular with bees today, many of which were fairly common, but this bee was less familiar. It is a tree bumblebee with its white tail, black abdomen and brownish orange hairs on its thorax. The first ones were recorded in Britain in 2001 and have gradually spread north with the first colonies found in 2013 in Scotland and they are not considered to be a threat to the UK’s wildlife, unlike many other arrivals. Tree bees are beneficial as they are busy pollinators and build colonies in places where other bees typically do not and traditionally nest in holes in trees but also use bird boxes, house eaves and or roofs.
