Waterfall
I had entertained ideas of doing a car boot sale this morning. But not getting to bed until 2am, and an indifferent weather forecast put paid to that particular notion. As it happened, the morning was dry and sunny, but that was a moot point because we didn’t get up until after 9!
No point in wasting the nice weather though, so we decided to go for a decent walk. When we were on this stretch of the River Mint a month ago, you could have walked across without getting your feet wet. At the time I said that perhaps we really did need some rain. I meant a few overnight showers, rather than the miserable weather we’ve had for the last ten days. As someone said - “be careful what you wish for!”
Anyway, we had a nice walk this morning, stopping for a coffee & cake and a bit of shopping halfway round. We looked for the Kingfisher in all its usual haunts, but didn’t see it. Quite surprised then, to be crossing one of the town centre bridges and there it was sitting on a bush in the middle of the river! Too far away for a decent photo, but good to see it even so.
Our little 5K jaunt was put into perspective when we passed a sign saying “99KM”. There had been an Ultra Challenge event this weekend, based at Kendal Rugby Club, with the main event being a 100KM route which could be completed all in one go (I noticed the sign had a glow stick hanging from it) or in two daylight chunks. Other distances were available from 10K to 50K and I take my hat off to anyone who completed one of the longer routes.
I did have a marathon event of my own to tackle this afternoon. The ironing pile was in danger of needing aircraft warning lights on top as I’d not touched it for three weeks. All done now, whilst listening to some good tunes on “Sounds of the 70s”.
Definitely need an early night tonight as Mrs C’s hairdresser has moved her appointment forward to 9.15. We don’t even get up that early to go to the gym…!
