Captain's Logbook

We went to the British Film Theatre on the Southbank to see Pather Panchali directed by Satyajit Ray in 1955. My film buff colleague had told me it was one of the best films ever made.

I've got to say - I was very impressed. It's a beautiful, slow moving story of rural poverty in 1950's India. Fantastic camera work and an engaging story covering all the usual elements of the human condition, set in a beautiful landscape. All told without the drama and hullabaloo of Hollywood.

Highly recommended.

I saw this street sign on the way back to the station and immediately thought of Kryptomart.
