Before and after

Just one of the sets of steps I tackled at the Cairn today - removing some of the bigger weeds / saplings, and scraping all the leaf litter off them (with my foot - forgot to bring a spade, which would have been much better!)  Doesn't look like a dramatic change, I know, but trust me, it's a lot clearer - and I deliberately left some ferns, etc, rather than just ripping everything out.

There were four of us today, and we did a lot of path clearing (cutting back brambles, etc), as well as some clearing up after the recent acts of arson/vandalism (we raked all the ash out of the Victorian shelter, from the bench fire and subsequent bonfires, cut down a swing someone had made from a lifebelt and rope, and carried a load of litter back down).  So sad to have to deal with all of that.  (Also sad to see that someone had smashed the perspex on our notice board and taken all our photos out - including the one of dear, departed Pat.)

Came home and found Tim trimming our new hedge.  Pete (other volunteer) drove past and stopped for a quick chat, which was nice.  Had a pretty restful afternoon, but started getting a sore throat, which was raging by bedtime.  Gah.
