Greater Flamingo
H and I took a drive out to Marievale this afternoon for a few hours birding, which was very pleasant.
Our tally for the outing was in excess of 50 species, which included this group of Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber), one of a few groups present.
Other nice to see birds included 100's of moulting Spurwing Geese, raft upon raft of Red-knobbed Coots, Capped Wheatear, Pied Avocets, and the 3 highlights towards the end of the afternoon were Marsh Owl, Spotted Eagle-owl and African Fish-eagle.
A great afternoon, and we had the sanctuary to ourselves.
