Views from my marshal post (also in extras)
Up fairly early to be a marshal for the longer races (32k and 58k. The former I did last year on a hot day and it goes up a Munro (3,000+ft), and the second does that, goes down to the valley and then up another Munro before returning.
The weather was not the best, low cloud early on (and never lifting from the tops) and gusty wind higher up but inproved for the second half of the shorter distance. The quick, longer-distance people also weren't too badly but those later on had torrential rain and 10m visibility on the second top. The slowest ones were turned back before the final climb on safety grounds but were still credited with 50k.
I had to stand?sit for 5 hours by a gate above a rifle range which was in use for all but an hour of the time, somewhat disconcerting but I was well above. I did get sort of used to it and someone came with some earplugs after a couple of hours, which helped. If I'd known where I'd be I could have been better prepared.
In between runners I read a bit and took some pics of the views and things around me with my phone.
We got taken (Mr Rat was a little bit further up the track and beyond the shooting) and brought back so had a short walk in the evening after the rain had passed.
