Large White Butterfly

I think this is a male - apparently as it has no spots?? So you can guess where I've been again today - my butterfly haven.

I have never seen so many Peacock butterflies - I was actually getting to the point where I wasn't really looking at them. Why have they been so successful this year?

It was difficult to choose which butterfly to upload. But I do like the detail in the left wings. It's a little overexposed, but it was rather sunny and these butterflies don't sit still for long.

In amongst the plethera of peacocks, I also spied a Comma, a Tortoiseshell, a Small Copper, and a Speckled Wood! But I'm a little curious as to why I haven't seen a Red Admiral? Not even one on the buddleia in my garden.

I haven't even tried to identify the dozens of bumble bees and hover flies!! May be I'll concentrate on those another day?

A heavenly way to lose a couple of hours!!
