Lynx On A Cosmos...

The small green spidey in the photo is a Green Lynx spider (Peucetia viridian). They are found in Southern North America. This one was skulking about on a pink Cosmos flower. About the size of a dime, including all eight legs, the Green Lynx doesn't spend time building a web but prefers to pounce 'cat-like' on its prey, hence the name 'lynx'. It then injects its prey with a potent venom. Since humans are not on their natural menu, Green Lynx spiders seldom bite us, but if they do, their venom can cause local pain, itching, redness and swelling. There is no need for medical intervention.
The Green Lynx is a member of the 'color-changing club', being able to modify her color to blend in with her surroundings, something scientists have recently discovered and still don't fully understand.
