Lucca

Today's destination is Civitavecchia. A cruise port which is primarily the departure point for visiting Rome. As we are quite familiar with Rome we decided instead to head for Lucca.

Lucca is a walled city, and famous for the music festival in the summer. The walls were built to last, and still totally and circle the town. Our coach dropped us just outside one of the gates from where we continued on foot.

In part the existing street plan follows the original Roman layout. The main picture shows part of the Piazza, the buildings follow the outline the Roman amphitheatre.
