Common crow butterfly (Euplocea core)
This butterfly's distribution is from south east Asia to Australia. It is unpalatable to the point of being inedible which makes it nonchalant if not bold. The caterpillars gets toxins from selected foods and this is passed on to the pupa and the butterfly.
I've been hoping to photograph this butterfly for many weeks but it has eluded me and now its season is nearing an end. I have watched it glide through the air, not bothering to flap, then landing somewhere too high. My photo today was taken in full sun which I avoid but it shows the brown of its underside, whereas its upper side is black. I'll keep searching and trying.
Have a great start to the week.
