Allies

Another back blip I'm afraid. My wife is cat sitting for our youngest daughter this weekend and I've been on a busy chores schedule with little blipping scope. So here's another shot from our day in London on Thursday. We came upon this sculpture of the UK and US leaders, F D Roosevelt and Churchill, as we walked along New Bond Street towards Regent Street and Picadilly. It shows the two statesmen in seemingly relaxed conversation on a humble bench. It's hard to imagine the current US President being happy with such a low key depiction. The sculpture is titled 'Allies' and was unveiled by Princess Margaret in 1995 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the second World War. Sadly FDR died in office in April 1945 and so did not live to witness the victory he did so.much to achieve. He and Churchill had a strong, mutually respectful relationship and were united in their resolve to defeat the brutal march of fascism. I cant imagine what they would think of the antics in today's White House. The sculptor is Lawrence Holofcener.
