Red Ball
Looking like a giant tomato or an enormous Edam Cheese, this giant red ball has visited 7 parts of the Bradford district this week. Today it was going to be in Roberts Park, Saltaire so Corinthian and I caught a couple of buses to go and have a look. People were doing various poses with the 15 feet high ball which was wedged into one of the shelters at the top of the park. This photo was taken quickly when the volunteers asked the visitors to clear the way for another photographer to take a photo with nobody in the frame. A few from further away in extras.
Created by New York artist Kurt Perschke the ball has been travelling around the world since its first appearance in Missouri in 2001 and is known as "the world's longest-running street art work". I was slightly disappointed that it wasn't being pushed around the park, but I guess it could have taken out several park runners and squashed small children! :-0)). There have been some weird and wonderful things in Bradford for the Year of Culture, but they are certainly different!
Called at the cafe for refreshments and shared our table with Jeanneb53 and husband C who had walked from Bingley to view the ball. C and I then called in at Salts Mill before returning to Bingley, a quick supermarket shop and then home. Another interesting day.
