The blue door

Still wandering round La Rochelle in SW France and this distant blue door caught my eye.  I wonder what's behind it - and the pattern in the pathway stones intrigued me.  Maybe to do with drainage ?  Maybe a fish, giving a nod to the nearby port ?  Centuries old that's for sure.
