Halcyon
Today's the day ...................... for a new boat
Big excitement today in Kirkcudbright Harbour, because it was the official reception for the Halcyon -.a new addition to the fishing fleet of the local company, West Coast Sea Products .
It is a sister ship to the Alcedo, which was delivered to WCSP five years ago – and which was at the time the largest fishing vessel to be built in the UK for two decades. As with Alcedo, there was a requirement to limit the vessel’s draught to 4.80m to cope with the water levels in the estuary of the River Dee and extend the access time around high water at Kirkcudbright.
WCSP was founded in 1968 by lobster fisherman, John King. Over the years, the enterprise has continued to expand, while remaining a family run business and maintaining strong links with the local community. The company has developed from one man and his lobster boat to a fleet of six vessels, now employing 40 fishermen and 100 factory staff.
You may not know that Kirkcudbright is one of the busiest ports in UK, for king scallops and queen scallops ........................
