Day 40: Turkish Market

Akbuk market on Fridays, I have never been before but this morning I went with Anita and Marie and was much amazed. One lira for a kilo of super fresh scarlet red tomatoes, or luscious green cucumbers. Freshly dug potatoes, the sweetest green and black grapes, 'Village' eggs, Turkish white cheese, and of course, figs were all in abundance. Currently high fig season. They are absolutely delicious - I hope this woman finished selling all hers quickly on this unbearably hot sunny day. Her stall was in the street on the very edge of the market. The oppressive heat was worse in the 'covered' part of the market where canvas has been used to create a patchwork roof to keep the sun out - but it keeps the heat in, and we lost weight just walking around. So, of course, it was necessary to go to the nearby restaurant called "Celebi" for a tasty brunch before hitting the supermarket for a few bits and pieces on the way home.

Afternoon spent collapsed at the pool. Easily over 40C today. Tonight's dinner will be a medley of all the lovely fresh veg, cheese, eggs and fruit that I bought at Akbuk market. Purchases also included a very pretty piece of natural amethyst - Viv, Mark, Finlay and Aaron were browsing at the same stall :)
