Sgwarnog: In the Field

Bay

I headed over to the west coast to meet with up with 20yo, who has a brief pause in his exams before the final one in two weeks. It was a good chance for a catch-up re. life plans beyond graduation.

He’d not yet visited Arnside, so we thought that would make a nice walk out. I hopped off my train at Carnforth and had a coffee, before joining 20yo’s train from Lancaster for the last couple of stops.

We did what is more or less my usual Arnside walk: around the coast to Far Arnside and then back up and over the Knott. The overnight rain had cleared up by the time we were walking, but it remained overcast for most of the morning. It’s always a good walk, with plenty of variety. We stuck to the beach most of way round before stepping up into the woods as we approached Far Arnside. I always enjoy this view (main image) of Morecambe Bay between the stunted trees, and I’ve photographed many versions of it over the years.

After picnicking on the Knott and a café stop back in Arnside we headed back into Lancaster where I spent a couple of hours. before catching the train home again.
