Living my dream

By Mima

Me and my shadow (encore)

I have started dressing for winter a day early. The biting cold winds today saw me in my fleecy trackydacks and merino sweater.

The sun has shone all day, casting long shadows on our earlyish morning walk before we were due to head to Moeraki for lunch. But plans changed just after we'd left: a text from my FFL to postpone due to illness. So I turned the car round and we came home again. We will meet up tomorrow instead...

Back home, making Gruyere cheese was brought forward 24 hours. And guess what else? Yup...more sitting in the sun reading my book.

You may recall my sister in law was diagnosed with bone cancer and a poor prognosis last year. She has been having various treatments, with some awful side effects for 12 months. And today I got the news that the latest scans show that the cancer has retreated and bone growth has taken place in the affected bones: a trend which the oncologist expects to continue. She now has a prognosis of years of life ahead of her, at least as far as the cancer is concerned.

I am so thankful. There has been much celebration in the family, although I suspect that my sil herself might find it hard to come to terms with, after living day to day with a virtual death sentence for the past year.
