Calf and Hind
An early walk in local fields, I saw a few deer in one of the fields but gave them a wide berth as I would hopefully be able to approach them from under cover later. I did set out a camera trap near one of the local water courses, as I've managed to catch some interesting wildlife in the past.
The dawn chorus was in full song with the app bringing back more than a dozen different species in just a few seconds. The only problem is with the leaves on the trees, spotting one was getting much more difficult. I did get some images of a long tailed tit and reed bunting (confirmed by checking images on the RSPB website).
As I came back towards what was a nursing herd with one year old males as well as hinds I noticed a pair of ears low in the grass. As they broke cover I was delighted to see this calf, dutifully following its mother across the field. First of the year, soon followed by another.I didn't try to follow; the hinds are much more protective with their precious new family members, even those who haven't given birth.
Hopefully I will get more opportunities for better images in weeks to come.
