A Tortoise called Alice

This morning I visited Whitchurch, a village between Winchester and Newbury, to have lunch  with A, an old friend. A lives in Coventry but yesterday evening had had his annual meeting with his old Aston Uni friends at a hotel in Newbury. Some years ago, we went on a couple of vision aid projects in Sierra Leone. Today, we met at Whitchurch Silk Mill, which is a most interesting and attractive place situated on the River Test.  It has a working water wheel although nowadays the weaving machinery is powered by mains electricity. See extra of a hand loom in the Silk Mill.
After A departed for home, I had a good look around the Silk Mill, before going about a mile further on to visit J and her husband R. I used to work with J in Winchester but she has been retired many years now. She has an old tortoise called Alice. Alice is very alert and active, with beautiful eye markings. I think Stormin Norman would find her very attractive! I'm not sure Alice would be so enamoured by Norman...
After a coffee and chat with J and R and admiring A, it was back to Winchester to see Doris.
