Spanish Steps
Mentions of the Marivent Palace and Gardens have featured almost every day in my blips since we arrived! So having discovered (part of) the gardens were open to the public we thought it only right that we should visit them.
The Queen had decreed that entry for the public would be free, an offer we couldn’t refuse! And, of course, as well as the flowers and trees there were the twelve bronze sculptures by Joan Miro to admire.
Now I have to confess that when it comes to sculptures I am almost always at a loss as to what the sculptor has created and is portraying even if I know the title of the piece. The Kelpies I ‘get’ so I’m not a complete ignoramus!
I/we enjoyed our short stay in the gardens. They weren’t very extensive and apart from a toilet there were no other facilities to detain or entertain us. All the photos from the gardens are in the extras. I shall leave you to decide for yourself which is the Joan’s sculpture is entitled ’Man and Woman’.
Having taken the local bus to the gardens we decided to walk back to the hotel. On our way we spotted the Spanish Steps in Cala Major. They may not be as famous as the Spanish Steps in Rome and other major cities but they are still impressive.
We walked up the 120 steps to the viewpoint at the top. What a fine view there is to see, well worth the effort (it’s the first of the extras). The picture of the steps was taken at ground level from another viewpoint at the other side of the bay.
It was very hot today so we had to ensure that we drank lots to keep our fluid levels up this combination has made me more befuddled than usual!
