A Helpful Hand With Phone Unlocking, Maidstone
I've tried to capture something at this spot in town a few times but they've never quite worked until today. The reflections have a weird slight off kilter feel to them in that they don't quit match up mirror wise. I really liked that the Delivaroo rider seemed to be only half formed and that the the hand of the mannequin in the shop window became the phone man's backpack. The serendipity came from the fact he was right under the very appropriate awning above him.
I think I will go back and take more images here because the possibilities are numerous and I think I could still get something even more interesting!
My newest photography book has just arrived - "Lee Friedlander : Pickup" and it's just absolutely brilliant. He's such a master of composition and his images are full of pathos, humour, sadness and grit. A lot of photographers go on about Garry Winogrand (and he is also fantastic in a very different, maybe woozy, more compulsive way) but for me I think I prefer Friedlander's wonderful take on America more. It has a slyer, more invidiual take on things.
